We have roasted pig/cattle over here every summer, starting may thru sept.
From house to house and week after week the Lao's style. Our white neibours always confused between the headless cattle to be greyhound dog. lol..We told them we not them dog eater vietcong/Redchinese. I kindly explained, We Khone Lao we don't eat dog and other 12 kind of meats, its against our Buddhist religion. Could any body names all the 12 animal meat we can't eat? Event the monk in the temple got it wrong. Very disappionted. |

I thought about becoming a monk as a kid, but, I could not bare with the one meal a day rule. What are the 12 meats we cannot eat? Most of the animals we have in Laos are almost extinct. LOL

Laosport, Lao people these days eat dog meat too, it's sad but true. There are restaurants in Laos that sell dog meat.
Jackspade, One meal a day rule? Not true, monks can eat 100 times if they want to, starting from early in morning. They just can't eat after 12pm. |

Oh wow, you actually have a sense of humor. ;D :) Technically speaking, anything before 12 pm is considered breakfast (one meal regardless how many times you have eaten)is what I meant to say. Sorry for the confusion. If I had known this I would've joined the temple as a kid at eat 100 times before 12 pm to last me a whole week without disappointment. ;D |

It's probably best if you stay away from a Lao market. They sell all kinds of animal parts. |
Title: Re: Anybody want some pork? Post by Lao LXE on 19th May, 2011 at 12:50am
Asian market in america only show animals meat. I still eat meat but try to cut down, and eat more vegetable. I'm getting old in my early 30's and start to work out 3-4 time at the gym.

We have the same problem here in Southeast and South Texas. Wild hogs reproducing at an extremely high rate and they eat all sorts of crops so farmers actually had to a helicopter to get rid some of them. I bet those hogs taste really nice smoked?
