Title: Kuadin Market in Vientiane Post by Lao Pride Administrator on 25th May, 2009 at 9:58am
The Kuadin Market is located across the road from the Morning Market Shopping Mall. It is considered the dirtiest and stinkiest market in Vientiane, but it is one of the cheapest places to do your shopping.

I feel like I want to puke. How come they dont try to clean it up? I wouldn't buy food from there with all them flies around. Reminds me when I was eating on the riverside and they were selling seafood but flies were all over them. I also ate at this restaurant and there were cats and dogs walking around. I guess people there are used to it but I sure ain't. Perhaps refrigeration is a luxury there.

I also feel uncomfortable when there are cats and dogs walking around and distracting me when I'm eating in a restaurant. What if customers are allergic or scared of them? Or they don't want dogs licking on their feet and legs?
Sometimes cats and dogs are hungry and they want some of your food. That's what Lao society is like, the owners let their pets roam wherever they want to go. Cats in Laos are like robbers, they go to find food to eat anywhere. |

Animals are not allowed in restaurants here in north america. If there is, then the restaurant will be closed down by health and food safety committee's. I know recently they closed down some restaurants here in chinatown cause of rats. I know in laos they don't have these types of laws and regulations but at least the owners should think about that for their business to be successful. The image that you are selling is just as important as the food itself. When people go out to eat at a restaurant, they are looking for convenience of not having to cook and the atmosphere of going out somewhere nice, usually better than their own kitchen. However, if you are looking for cheap eats, and aren't afraid to die or be eaten by the food itself, then I recomend some of these food markets as shown in the pictures.

That's true. The animals are mostly seen at basic restaurants because these types of restaurants is usually outdoors.
Animals are kept out of high standard restaurants, but I like to eat at basic restaurants because the food is cheaper. |

Some people eat dogs and cats in Laos, it's sad. There's a restaurant where you can order dog meat.
