There's probably no need for it. The guys who cut the metals (welders) wear safety glasses and shields.

Looks like they are building an apartment or office building.

In the US hard hat, steel toe boots, safety glasses is a must. You never know. Accident does happen. Company can get big fine by inspector if their worker don't wear safety equipment.
:o

That's because workers in western countries have a habit of suing their employers, for their injuries, and this and that.

Therefore companies have very strict rules and guidelines.

Construction is one of the most dangerous jobs, and has high rates of injuries and death. Accident can occur at any moment. I also have education background in construction.

How far did you progress with your construction education? Did you finish your apprenticeship, bro?

Only one year?

It's too easy in the US! Are you a qualified carpenter?

My apprenticeship took me 4 years to complete. >:(

One year and you can work as entry level jobs or continues apprentice program with Union Carpenter. One year is not easy working in a hot sun and cold weather. We got hand on experience building a real house from the ground up. Apprentice is a jobs training. Technical college is a school there's a different.

US education is one of the best in the world. Many around the world come here to study.

Company should provide saftety equipment. If worker get injured without saftety equipment company is to blame. Worker right should be protected, and sometime these big corporation, big business needed to get sued.
;)

Any idea how much qualified builders in the US earn?

I'm not sure around $35,000-$100,000 or more. If you are sub contractors or had your own business you can make more.
;)

Are they building a castle?  Looks like it's steel framed structure which is much better than wood.  The workers looked like Viet?  Man, I am becoming a Judy Garland fan now.

Steel frames are more durable and cheaper than the conventional timber homes. :)

Admin added more pics of Judy for example in this topic.  I freaked out a couple of times when I accidentally clicked on 'Judy Garland Board' instead of 'General Lao Board' :D.

Builders in Texas use wood as well for building homes because wood is cheaper.  My next house will be steel-framed structure.  I will make the house fireproof and termite proof but not sure about lightning though :D.

Residential properties are erected with steel frames as well!

Houses with steel frames are just as 'lightning proof' as timber homes.

How do you know all this? Last time you said you were a 'model'. ;D

Why not?

Another advantage of steel frames are that they don't bend!

Not sure. I think because steel frame cost more and time consuming to install. Average house in the U.S take 3 month or less to build. Time is money here. To build a nice average house with 3 room, 2 bath, 3 car garage. The material cost about $90,000 and Labors is about $120,000. After the house is finish they'll sell it for around $250,000. My quick estimation, but you know right now US housing market is at the bottom and not good.

What I've heard that it costs more to use steel than wood in Texas for example because not many are not ready yet to use steel.

From 'homework' to get knowledge and knowledge is power.

I mainly do subsurface earth 'modellng' (80% of the my time at work) - sorry for not clarifying ;D.   However I have done some body parts modeling in the past :o.

Here is the woodframe 'skeleton' look like after the dust had settled.  Probably the same in Minnesota?
